Two Political Coordinators, one each for Karachi and interior Sindh have been appointed to keep in touch with the Pakistan Muslim League (PML) workers to help them on organisational matters as well as resolving their problems and grievances. Asif Khan has been appointed Co-ordinator for Karachi while a senior PML politician of Shikarpur Ghulam Mustafa Bhutto will be the Co-ordinator for interior Sindh.

PML Sindh Secretary General and Provincial Minister for Revenue Imtiaz Ahmed Shaikh disclosed this during a press conference here on Wednesday.

He said the PML government regarded the party workers as the real force of the party and maximum efforts would be made to resolve their problems.

He deplored the workers were neglected in the past, which ultimately caused frustration among them and many of them had either adopted silence or had joined other parties.

Imtiaz Shaikh paid tributes to the party President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and PML Central Secretary General Mushahid Hussain Sayed, who had evolved a policy for the solution of genuine problems of workers.

He said the Sindh government had lifted ban from recruitment and jobs would be provided strictly on merit, no matter whether the applicant belonged to PML or any other party.

He added party membership in different districts of Sindh had already started, on completion of which, elections would be held.

PML Sindh Secretary General said he would soon announce the adhoc bodies for carrying out organisational work till the election. A cell led by Provincial Co-ordinator for Membership Al-Haj Shamimuddin had been set up in Karachi for distribution of membership books to district and city organisations.

He remarked that groupings and divisions in the past had destroyed the party's political fabric, but asserted that that would not be allowed to happen again.

The PML leader said the party was ready to field candidates in the forthcoming local bodies' elections and was confident that like-minded candidates along with coalition partners including the MQM could be adjusted in those elections. Even, if the PML decided to fight those elections alone, Imtiaz Shaikh said, "We are ready to take on this option too."

Regarding a question about bifurcation of a number of districts in Sindh including that of Hyderabad, the Minister said that was being done to facilitate administrative solution to the problems of the people. That should be seen in the general context, he said and ruled out any linguistic consideration in the bifurcation of Hyderabad district.

Earlier, the Sindh Minister addressed a meeting of PML workers belonging to Khairpur, Ghotki and Sukkur at the Circuit House.

He called upon the workers to be ready for participating in the forthcoming local bodies' elections, which he said, would be transparent and impartial.

He declared that government functionaries were the servants of the people and those who did not co-operate in resolving the public problems, would bear the consequences.

Also to speak at the meeting were PML leader from Khairpur Syed Shakir Shah, Zafar Ahmed Shaikh from Sukkur, Saleem Khan of PML Youth Wing Sukkur and Ghulam Mustafa Bhutto from Shikarpur.
